On the eastern site of the Lesser Sunda Islands lay the three islands of Komodo, Rinca and Padar and many other small picturesque islands covering more than 600 kilometres of land and more than 1200 kilometers of rich marine waters. Together they form the Komodo National Park. The islands are blessed with spectacular volcano’s, mountains covered in tropical jungle, mangrove forests, fertile green rice paddies and the home of the biggest monitor lizard on earth, known as the Komodo Dragon.
Washed by clear blue tropical waters, the stunning variety in shapes and colors underwater are sensational. The lush sea grass beds and thriving coral reefs are simply amazing. The national park status has protected the dive sites around komodo from extensive dynamite fishing. Keeping the reefs healthy and vivid, the Komodo island national Park has the opportunity to host some of Indonesia’s best diving environments. It offers the widest variety in marine life imaginable. While the deep seas both north and south bring in rich nutrients and plankton, attracting whale sharks and all kinds of reef sharks, Sun fish, Tuna, Eagle and Manta Rays and other pelagic fish. It is an underwater scenery so diverse that it covers sheer cliff walls, pinnacles, underwater plateaus, slopes, caves, swimthroughs, all with varying colour and sizes. The colorful sponges, sea squirts, tunicates and corals create a macro-heaven with pygmy seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish, clown frogfish, nudibranches and blue-ringed octopus.
