Diving Similans BeachThe nine stunningly beautiful uninhabited islands, approximately 65 kilometres from the Phang Nga Province in the Andaman Sea form the world famous Similan Island Marine National Park. Not only are the islands known for their impressive nature above the water, with granite boulders and rock formations covered with lush rain forest and white sandy beaches. Underwater in the unspoiled crystal clear waters the legend of the islands continues.

The rock and boulder formations here are overgrown with hard and soft corals, which form the perfect habitat for marine life and created one of the richest and most diverse coral reefs in the world. To protect this national treasure of Thailand from human abuse, the islands have achieved national park status and are fully protected under Thai law.

Similans Thailand BeachThe Similans Islands natural beauty gives the group of islands, without a doubt, the opportunity to host the best diving in Thailand. Indeed with its wide variety of dive sites the Similans offer some of the best diving in the world. Perhaps the most extraordinary thing about the Similans is that it boasts two completely different diving environments together in one destination.

Diving Similans ThailandThe divesites on the western side of the Islands are composed of massive granite boulders and rock formations covered in carpets of soft corals creating an underwater environment of holes, overhangs, caves and swimthroughs. This in combination with fabulous visibility creates a dramatic view that can only be found in very few locations in the world. The often strong currents swirling around the boulders make the western divesides all together an exhilarating diving experience.

The east-coast lays very well protected from the south-west monsoon. Its powdery snow-white beaches slope gently down through extensive soft and hard coral gardens to approximately 35 metres in depth. Diving is easy and the navigating is simple, with gentle currents wafting the divers effortlessly along the slopes. It doesn’t matter where you look or go; you will be in the middle of fascinating underwater landscapes full color and variety of marine life.

The Surin islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock

Diving Similans SeahorseApproximately a hundred kilometers above the Similan islands lay the five almost uninhabited limestone island of the Koh Surin National park, where the beauty of the Similans continues. The islands are a wilderness of lush tropical jungle, steep cliffs and a number of sheltered bays with snow white sandy beaches. Inhabiting the islands are small communities of Chao Lay Sea Gypsies. They live a completely traditional existence in their bamboo huts, built on stilts above the water, surviving with fishing and unaware or influenced by modern living.

Diving Similans Frog FishThe remote location, few visitors and the much more protected location of the bays gives the reefs of the Surin islands an unspoilt and healthy environment. Together with Richelieu Rock, located only 20 kilometers south east of the Surin Islands, they have it all. It is without a doubt, the best dive site in the area, the best dive site in Thailand and rated as one of the top dive sites in the world. Richelieu Rock is a sensation for every dive enthusiast.

Diving Asia Similans Lonneke+ TurtleWAAAAHOEOOOOOE!!!
